Jazz Bands
Both the Oliver Ames and Easton Middle School Jazz Bands participate in several competitions throughout the year. Members are selected based on
auditions. They also perform at the TEMPO Dessert Show and the Spring Scholarship Concert
Congratulations to Ralph Peterson and Michael Hansen for being selected to participate in the
Southeastern Senior District Jazz Band. These talented musicians will represent Oliver Ames High
School and you can see them perform with the Senior District Jazz Band on Saturday, January 8,
2011 @ 2:00pm at the Duxbury Performance Center.

Congratulations to the members of the Oliver Ames Jazz Ensemble! The group came in second place at this year's Berklee College of Music High School Jazz Festival. Berklee's 43rd High School Jazz Festival showcased over 3,000 students and 200 big bands, combos, and vocal ensembles from California to New England competing for $175,000 in scholarships to Berklee's summer programs.With the groups second place finish, Oliver Ames High School was awarded three scholarships for the Berklee Summer Jazz Program. Special congratulations to Ralph Peterson who won the "Judges' Choice Award" for the group as the lead trumpet player. Come see the Jazz Ensemble at their next competition at Stoughton High School, this Thursday at 4pm, as they try to qualify for this years' MAJE State Finals.

Congratulations to Oliver Ames High School Jazz Band musicians Ralph Peterson and Michael
Hansen for being selected to participate in this year's All-State Jazz Band Ensemble. This is a
great honor and quite an impressive achievement because both boys had to first successfully
audition for the Senior District Jazz band in order to qualify for an All-State audition. Ralph and
Michael auditioned against students from all school districts consisting of the entire state of
Massachusetts. Ralph is in grade 12 and plays the trumpet. Michael is in grade 11 and plays the
baritone saxophone. This will be Michael Hansen's 2nd consecutive All-State performance.
These talented musicians will perform with the All-State Jazz Band at Boston Symphony Hall on
Saturday, March 26, 2011.

The Oliver Ames High School Jazz Band Wins a Gold Medal at MAJE State Finals
Congratulations to the Oliver Ames High School Jazz Band on receiving a Gold Medal at the state finals of the Massachusetts Association for Jazz Education Festival on March 19th at Framingham High School. Special congratulations to Michael Hansen on bari sax and Ralph Peterson on trumpet for receiving outstanding musicianship awards.
As a result of their Gold medal performance, the OAHS jazz band has been invited to participate and perform in the Hatch Shell Big Band Jazz Showcase at Boston's famous Hatch Shell Stadium. The program is offered as an enrichment opportunity and to provide an arena for musical performance of the top high school jazz ensembles in the state. Groups from over 70 public and private schools participate in the festivals throughout the year, then the top bands at state finals are chosen to perform at the Hatch Shell showcase.
The Hatch Shell jazz showcase will be held on Sunday, May 15th and is open to the public.

The Oliver Ames Jazz Band is playing at the Hatch Shell in Boston on Sunday, May 15th at 3pm.
Come see such famous jazz musicians as Ralph Peterson, Michael Hansen and Jon Raduazzo at the Hatch Memorial Shell on the esplanade this Sunday. The band will be playing at 3pm. Fan bus leaves at 12:30pm and will return around 4pm.
